The rear suspension height adjustment isn`t a part of the rear beam repair, it is often caused by the wish to make the back part of the car higher. It is good in some cases, to change the height of the torsion beam with purpose of hardness increase and decrease the back car part sinkage while overloading. The rear beam torsion isn`t supposed to work overloaded, it may shorten its lifetime. The height adjustment consists in the changing of the position of the torsion splined ending. There splined connectors on the both sides of torsion. One of them is connected with the rear beam lever, the other one – with the beam. The standard spline position is marked, the shifting would be a sign of changes in the height and hardness.

While repairing the torsion suspension the demounting of torsions is usually needed. It is important in this case to mark the standard position of the rear beam torsions, to clarify it for the mounting where to put which units. For demounting of the torsion while putting it out of the spline the inertial remover is used. The remover stud is driven into thread on the torsion butt end, it might be needed to clean the tread with the help of screwing tap. The torsion splines are often hard to uncouple, in such cases the hard hammer is helpful.

In the most cases repair of the rear beam of Peugeot, Citroen, Samand, Lifan, SMA is connected with replacement of the rear beam lever needle bearings. According to some surveys, replacement of the rear beam lever needle bearings might be needed after 80 000 kilometrage. That may also require demounting of the rear beam torsions and levers. Each side of the beam has two bearings. The most dangerous problem of the rear beam of Peugeot, Citroen, Samand, Lifan, SMA is the complicity of the needle bearing wear detection for the car owner. That`s why the car is often used with the broken bearing, that makes the situation worse. That causes the wear of the axle (also known as pin), on which the bearing rollers move (the needle bearing of the rear beam of Citroen, Peugeot, Samand has no inner race, its rollers move on the surface of the axle).

The replacement of the rear beam axles can hardly be accomplished at home, because it needs specific experience, equipment and tools. The service stations for the PSA cars don`t do the replacement of the axles, they can only offer a new beam with axles, which is really expensive. The most difficult case while repairing the torsion suspension would be destroying of the needle bearing matching site in the lever. But that occurs rarely. The same reasons cause the destroying of the matching site and rear beam pin, but the first one is protected with the bearing outer race. The repair of the lever contains the matching site renewal and is done on the cutting equipment. The most important problem of the rear beam lever repair is finding the necessary equipment, the boring lathe.
